sipping nectar
Earlier today, I was sitting looking at a tree, and the tree had many small flowers, beautiful. And as I watched, a tiny bird came and visited one or two of the flowers, sipping nectar from them. It was a divine moment, so simple and so beautiful, and seeing this bird sipping nectar in this way, it felt like a metaphor for life.
Existence is providing us with nectar in so many ways. Every moment, this nectar of life is available to us. And we, like this tiny bird, can sip it, enjoy its sweetness, its delicacy, its nourishment. And all we really need do, to sip at the nectar of life, is to allow ourself to be aware of this moment, fully – to be fully present with the moment. We need only be receptive, not trying to force our own idea on to life, of how things should be, not trying to grab at something actively, not grasping, simply relaxing into a state of open receptivity. And whenever we do this in the moment, we will find that we are sipping nectar. The moment will be so sweet, so delicious, so vitalising.
This is the little analogy that was coming to me today, as I watched a tiny bird sipping nectar from a flower.
